Local theater season set to open

The Olathe Civic Theatre Association has its schedule set for the season, which opens very soon.

First up is the show 'Altar Boyz', a musical that was a huge off-Broadway hit. The show was written by Kevin Del Aguila, with lyrics and music by Michael Patrick Walker and Gary Adler.

The show is a satirical look at boy bands. The five-member group (Matthew, Mark, Luke, Juan, and Abraham) addresses the audience directly, and performs songs in the style of various boy bands, also dancing in the style of that particular group. Altar Boyz takes audience members back to the craze for bands like the Backstreet Boys and NSYNC that dominated the 1990s and early 2000s.

The show ran opened Off-Broadway in 2005 and run until 2010, its run comprising 2,032 regular performances, with 16 previews.

Altar Boyz kicks off the season this Friday, August 26, at the Olathe Civic Theatre on East Loula. The show runs for three consecutive weekends, and can be seen August 26-28, September 2-4, and September 9-11. Performances on Fridays and Saturdays are at 8:00 pm, and on Sundays the shows are matinees at 2:00 pm. The performance is suitable for all ages.

Organizations like these can benefit by working with poster printing companies, which can create colorful placards, suitable for purchase, for each production in an organization’s season.
