Local food producers to learn new skills in Olathe

Food producers in Olathe will want to leave space in the calendar for next month, as a conference is being organized to help small growers increase sales.

The 2025 Olathe Local Food Producers Workshop will kick off soon. The event will welcome homesteaders and farmers from Olathe and the Kansas City metro area who want to learn the necessary tips and techniques to find success selling produce at farmer’s markets and direct-to-consumer. The event is being organized with help from the Kansas Department of Agriculture and Alternative Crops.

The event will begin with Ileana Price of Five Mile Farms, a keynote speaker who will discuss the importance of community within small food markets. Attendees will then expand into breakout groups to focus on diverse product specialties to help each producer stand out in their market or niche. Printing services are an excellent way to advertise food and beverage options for producers at farmer’s markets.

The gathering will also touch on food safety, social media marketing, and updates to sales tax for sellers. Spanish language interpretation will be available to interested parties who speak Spanish during the keynote speeches and breakout sessions.

The workshop will be held at the Kansas State University campus in Olathe on Friday, February 7, starting at 9:00 AM and ending at 4:00 PM. General admission tickets are available online for $25 per guest.
