Officials are estimating that Spring 2018, will see the start of construction at Lake Olathe.
Due to concerns about security and safety, the park's entire east side will be off-limits to the public until the completion of construction. The lake covers 172 acres, and sits within a 208-acre park. A number of entrances to the park will be shut down.
The entrances on the north side that will be closed are South Beaver Shelter Lane, West 135th Street, and South Ward Cliff Drive. Entrance from the south via South Ward Cliff Drive and West Dennis Avenue will also be closed. The east shore, Beaver Shelter, and the disc golf course will all be unavailable during construction. However, the park's west side can still be accessed via Lake Shore Drive, which is anticipated to remain open throughout construction.
Improvements planned for Lake Olathe include renovating the entrances from Dennis Avenue and Santa Fe Street, building a swimming beach, renovating the disc golf course, creating a marina and an aquatics learning area, improving four miles of trails, creating a sprayground, and adding restrooms throughout the park and near the Beaver Shelter, which will also be renovated.
Improvements like this are important to many residents, so officials might consider working with a flyer printing company to create a letter updating them on the progress of the work.
