Insurify names Olathe Greenest City in Kansas

Insurify has honored Olathe with its Greenest City Award, which it gives to the city in every state that uses the best driving practices, and has a lifestyle that is the most environmentally friendly.

Higher scores went to cities that have renewable electricity programs, space dedicated to parks, healthy air, and low amount of urban sprawl, among others. The city with the highest score in each state was named the winner. Winners of honors would likely send out notification letters on printed Letterheads to notify residents of the award.

Snejina Zacharia, Insurify's CEO, described the environment as a resource that is both precious and finite, and said cities working to protect it deserve recognition. An online, virtual insurance marketplace, Insurify represents many different insurers, allowing customers to see prices before they select the agency that suits their needs.

To determine winners, Insurify analyzed the more than one million applications for car insurance in its database to determine a city's vehicular carbon footprint, then went on to consider mileage driven annually, drivetrain, engine size, and fuel efficiency.

Also in the mix were other factors, such as the city's air quality, how much green space it has dedicated specifically to parks, whether it encourages eco-conscious driving, whether it uses renewable electricity programs, and whether or not it has urban sprawl. Eco-conscious driving is the term for driving in such a way as to make the most efficient use of fuel, while having the least impact on the environment.
