The Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop, which has been preserved by the city as a monument to Olathe’s heritage as a stopping point for pioneers traveling through the Santa Fe, Oregon, and California Trails, has opened a new attraction - its Agricultural Livestock Heritage Barn.
The barn comprises 8,500 square feet and houses baby animals, such as calves, chicks, lambs and kids, who will live inside until they are old enough to be moved to outside Pens. The barn also features interactive exhibits about agriculture and farm animals, as well as providing much-needed storage for farm equipment from the 1800s. Visitors can watch livestock being cared for, and learn how horses are hitched to a stagecoach.
Tim Talbott, who manages the site, said that most people know about the Mahaffie site because of its connection to the trails, but many do not realize it was also a working farm, and one of the county's most affluent at that. He adds that it is important for people to realize how crucial farming was to American life, particularly during the Civil War era.
Site managers like Talbott will often consider working with a banner printing company to create flags for use outdoors, especially what there are new goings-on to publicize. Banners are festive, sturdy, and create interest due to their dynamic aesthetics
