Gardner homes open for holiday tours

Olathe residents and others in the area who enjoy exploring historic homes have a treat in store, as the Gardner Historical Museum plans its second annual Christmas Homes tour.

The tour will feature homes decorated lavishly with ornaments and other materials appropriate to the time the house was built. Gardner is about a 10-mile journey from Olathe.

The museum has picked five homes for the 2014 offering, and visitors can start their tour at whichever one they prefer. The homes are at 154 West Warren Street, 212 West Park Street, 249 West Main Street, 415 South Center Street, and 439 South Center Street. Event organizers are excited that local businesses have decorated some of the rooms in one of the houses. According to Solene Hollingshead, who has helped plan the tour, decorators include Metcalf Bank, Olde Thyme Decor, and a group from Olathe.

Although the houses are not close to the museum, Hollingshead expects a good turnout. The tour finishes at the Museum and at Bray House, where refreshments and a gift bazaar will be available.

The tour is on December 6, and the homes are open from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. Tour organizers could work with a banner printing company to create Banners for each house. They move in the breeze and could add to the fun and excitement at each home.
