Firm wins contract to deice American Airlines aircraft

Global Ground Support LLC, a company based in Olathe, recently won a $32m contract with American Airlines.

The contract is good news for job seekers in the area, since Global will hire additional employees to make sure it can fulfill its obligations. It has agreed to provide the airline with 78 aircraft deicers within the next four months. Last year, Global sold 82 deicers in total.

Winning the contract with American Airlines is a huge success, and caused the company's stock to jump $5 per share when the news broke. In addition, in the last 10 years Global has sold equipment to every major U.S. airline except one - American. That makes the new contract even better.

According to Global's vice president for sales, Jeffrey Walsh, the company won the contract because it developed a proprietary vehicle telemetry system, which still has a patent pending. The system allows an airline to see the performance of each operator, compared to the average for the station, in five different areas. American chose to add the telemetry system to each of the 78 deicers. In addition, they chose the company's Air Plus option, which deices planes using compressed air expelled at 750mph. Using the air makes deicing quicker and cuts down on the use of chemicals.

Global officials might consider working with a banner printing company on a banner to hang inside to celebrate the contract.
