University endows new professorship

A new endowed professorship will give students and faculty at a local university academic and research travel opportunities.

The University of Indianapolis recently announced that Lawrence Sondhaus, who is a professor of history, will be the first to receive the Gerald and Marjorie Morgan Endowed Professorship of European History. The announcement was made at the 2019 Family Weekend. This endowment will be used to support travel for research purposes, as well as funding graduate student assistants in the program to obtain a Master of Arts in History.

Sondhaus said he was honored by the receipt of the endowed professorship, which will benefit both students and faculty. He said it will enable him to return to Germany regularly, allowing him to improve his students' experience in the classroom, particularly in his course on Modern Germany.

In addition, Sondhaus is a prolific author, having written 13 Books, mostly on German and Austrian history in the 1800s and 1900s. He has also written articles for academic Journals, book chapters or conference papers, short articles or commentaries, and more than 50 book reviews.

Gerald Morgan, for whom the endowment is named, was granted a Bachelor's degree in history from the University of Indianapolis in 1973, and followed it up with a master's in history, awarded by the University in 1983. He was a career soldier whose service took him and Marjorie, his wife, around the world. Brochure printing can be used to highlight honors like this in facility publications.
