Step back into time at the Victorian village

The 22nd annual Old Christmas Village and Market will take place at the Joy of All Who Sorrow Orthodox Church on Friday, December 2 and Saturday, December 3. Hours of operation are 5-9pm on Friday and 10 am-3 pm on Saturday. Admission is $2 and there will be door prizes.

The Old Christmas Village is a reproduction of a Victorian English village. There will be gift shops featuring local and international artists, greenery for sale, Christmas decorations and ornaments, a bakery, children’s crafts, St. Seraphin’s Bookstore and live musical entertainment. The St. Nicolas Café will serve hot meals and St. Lucia will serve hot cross buns.

Indianapolis printing companies have probably been busy helping to create a festive event by providing decorations such as Banners and Posters to decorate the church. A well-placed banner will help to raise excitement about an event, as will a colorful or dramatic poster.

This is an excellent place to start, or finish, your Christmas shopping. Your friends and family will appreciate the type of unique and original gifts that you can purchase at the market. It is also a great way to get into the spirit of Christmas. So many of our current Christmas traditions come from the Victorians and most of us know the story of A Christmas Carol; the Victorian Christmas has become idealized and many of us try to recapture that ideal. Showing the kids what life was like in the past helps them to develop an interest in the history of Christmas.
