Special day scheduled at Indianapolis Museum of Art

The Indianapolis Museum of Art has scheduled a special ‘Day of Flight’ soon.

Visitors will be able to explore the various types of flights that take place in nature. There will be lectures about bees and butterflies, as well as a demonstration of live flight by various birds of prey. Songbirds and hummingbirds will also be banded as part of a discussion of how important conservation and research are.

The schedule includes various activities: from 8:30 until 10:30 am, there will be classes on hummingbird banding; from 9:00 am until 11:00 am, there will be art activities. Visitors can learn about butterfly life cycles from 9:30 am until 10:30 am, and view raptors from 10:30 am until noon. Live flight demonstrations are scheduled for noon until 12:30 pm, with more art activities taking place from 12:30 until 2:00 pm.

The basics of beekeeping will be offered from 12:30 until 2:00 pm, and there will be a walking tour exploring insects in nature from 1:30 pm until 2:15 pm. A second tour runs from 2:15 pm until 3:00 pm, and the last activity of the day is songbird banding, from 2:30 pm until 4:00 pm.

The Day of Flight takes place this Saturday, August 19. Such special days, where many activities take place at the same time, can benefit if organizers work with a flyer printing company to create a handout listing all the alternatives available to visitors.
