The National Urban League recently announced that it will have its annual conference this year in Indianapolis. This is the first time in 25 years that the League will hold its event - the country's largest conference on civil rights - in Indianapolis.
The conference brings community, business, and political leaders together to discuss various challenges. The theme of the conference this year is “Getting to Equal—United not Divided”.
Marc Morial, a former New Orleans mayor and the CEO of the Urban League spoke with officials recently to discuss the impact the conference is likely to have on Indianapolis. It's expected that thousands of people will attend the conference. Organizers of large events such as this can work with Print shops to create handouts for visitors, giving the agenda of the meeting, as well as tips on things to do in the city.
Morial said he believes the economic impact of the conference could be as much as ten or twenty million dollars in revenue, since those who come will also spend some time enjoying the city's amenities. However, he also said the conference is a serious discussion about the issues urban residents face in the nation today.
The National Urban League works to end discrimination by empowering people economically, and, in the last ten years, has helped improve the quality of life for 15 million people. The conference is set for July 24-27.
