NAMI summit to discuss improving criminal justice system

Next month, Indianapolis will host NAMI Indiana's 20th Annual Mental Health and Criminal Justice Summit to discuss the intersection of mental health and the criminal justice system.

NAMI Indiana serves as the state body of the National Alliance on Mental Illness, which is grassroots initiative providing assistance to people living with serious mental illnesses. NAMI Indiana trains volunteers, offers continuing education for professionals, and advocates for systematic change at the state level.

The Mental Health and Criminal Justice Summit brings together mental health professionals and those working in the criminal justice system to enact positive and significant changes in policies currently in place within the system. The presenters and speakers at the summit will encompass a wide range of professionals working in the mental health field intersected with the criminal justice system. Topics discussed at the summit will include the Indiana Behavioral Health Update, implementation of recommendations of National Judicial Task Force, response to youth in crisis, public safety therapy K-9 initiative, and many more.

The summit is scheduled for Friday, March 10 from 8:15 am to 4:00 pm. It will take place at the Indianapolis Marriott North on 3645 River Crossing Parkway. Tickets range from $80 to $140.
