Museum visitors to enjoy brew with their art

The Indianapolis Museum of Art opened its inaugural Beer Garden in March 2017 in conjunction with its Spring Blooms outdoor exhibit, which opened the same day. The Beer Garden proved to be such a success that the museum has decided to extend its run.

Spring Blooms comprised 250,000 bulbs planted previously to the opening, all of which were blooming. Joshua Ratliff, the museum’s director of hospitality, said the idea of the Beer Garden is to have people take their drinks with them as they walk through the exhibit and enjoy being outside.

When it opened, the Beer Garden offered only two beers - a German pilsener, and a beer brewed solely for the IMA, “Among the Leaves.” With the expanded operation, the museum is offering additional beers, as well as Riesling wine, lemonade, coffee, tea, and non-alcoholic root beer.

Bar food like pretzels, as well as Charcuterie boards and hot dogs will be available. Special nights will feature live music, and museum visitors can buy picnic items at the IMA Café and take them to the gardens.

The Beer Garden is now open for extended hours, and will be open through the end of August, from 11 am until 9 pm Tuesdays through Saturdays, and from noon until 5 pm on Sundays.

Projects like this can benefit if the organizers create Brochures for museum visitors, reminding them about the garden.
