One of the most iconic sports teams of all time is on the way to Indianapolis, bringing outrageous fun, as well as expert ball playing, with it.
The legendary Harlem Globetrotters will help Indianapolis residents welcome the new year with their traditional display of silliness on the basketball court. The Globetrotters play exhibition basketball games, combining comedy, theater, and honest-to-goodness athletic ability in their appearances. Since their inception, the team has played over 26,000 games in over 100 locations, averaging 450 live performances throughout the world each year. The team was created in the 1920s in Chicago, where the original players were born and raised.
Today, the team is known as much for its comedy as for its skill. The games allow the players to demonstrate their ability by handling one or more balls at the same time, spinning balls on the tips of their fingers, and making difficult or trick shots. They play their games against the Washington Generals, which the Globetrotters have beaten in almost every game for decades.
Several of the best-known names in basketball, such as Wilt Chamberlain and Nat Clinton, went on to play for the NBA after their time with the Globetrotters.
The Harlem Globetrotters will be at the Banker's Life Fieldhouse on South Pennsylvania Street on January 19, starting at 1:00 pm. Flyer printing can be used to create handouts for attendees of events like this.
