Perhaps the premier event in comics, gaming, film and television, and certainly a playground for fans, Comic Con in San Diego has become a huge happening, drawing as many as 130,000 people annually. Now Indianapolis will get its own convention, beginning in March 2014.
It was confirmed at the end of May that Action 3, the company that already runs Comic Cons in Nashville, Tampa, and Orlando, has added Indianapolis to its roster of host cities.
The San Diego Comic Con is a separate entity, and a number of companies run Comic Cons in cities such as San Francisco and Chicago. However, comic book and action fans in Indiana have largely been out of luck—until now. Stephen Solomon, who is a co-owner of Action 3, says Indianapolis was his choice, and he expects the event, slated for the Indiana Convention Center, to draw as many as 10,000 people.
The Indianapolis Comic Con will come complete with approximately 150 vendors who are set to sell anything and everything related to comics. There will also be sketch artists working in what is known as ‘Artist Alley’, and even this relatively simple plan (no movie premieres, no big stars announced), has fans excited.
Admission to Indianapolis’s fledgling Comic Con is $20 per day or $45 for three days. Children 12 and under get in free.
Organizers are bound to want to make sure attendees have a program that reflects the event’s importance. Action 3 could work with brochure printers to create a booklet that lists artists, vendors, and leaves room for autographs, in addition to featuring appropriate photos.
