Keep Indianapolis Beautiful (KIB) has kicked off its spring effort, the Great Indy Cleanup, and will be encouraging people to get outside and pick up the trash in their local neighborhoods.
Bates-Hendricks neighborhood residents took advantage of some good weather last weekend to start the effort. Matt Nunley, who lives in the area, said to WTHR.com that it was good to get outside after being indoors all winter. Not only did he like getting some fresh air, but taking part in the cleanup enabled him and others to meet people who might have moved to the area in the colder months. He and others hope to get the new neighbors involved in the effort, to help build a sense of community within neighborhoods downtown. Organizers of events such as this can use poster printing to help volunteers find the locations where work is needed.
KIB is a community and environmental nonprofit organization that works to help nature and people prosper. It is affiliated with Keep America Beautiful, Inc., which is a nationwide organization that seeks to preserve the natural environment and beauty in communities throughout the United States.
Volunteers in Indianapolis will be working on cleanup every weekend through the end of the month. The next outing will see them picking up trash on the west side, in the Speedway, Kennedy King, and Haughville neighborhoods, and in the city's downtown, creating beautiful public spaces.
