Donut Dash helps support teachers

For the third year in a row, Teachers’ Treasures, a non-profit Indianapolis organization that gives school supplies free to teachers whose students are in need, held its Donut Dash.

The event comprises two races: the first is the ‘Donut Challenge’, a 5K that requires participants to eat a dozen donut holes halfway through the race, then run back. The second race is a 5K run/walk people can take at their own pace. They had to wait for the end for their donuts, however.

IPS John Marshall teacher Aigner Blade says she goes to Teachers’ Treasures on a regular basis, where she gets supplies ranging from paper and pencils, to chairs and filing cabinets. She, as well as the other teachers who took part in the event, expressed their gratitude to the organization, and said they were glad to have a chance to help. She is aware that if she could not get the items she needs from Teachers’ Treasures, she would have to pay for them herself.

Another participant, Carole Guess, said she ran because her parents were both teachers, and this was a way for her to honor their legacy.

Money raised at the Donut Dash has enabled Teachers’ Treasures to give away over $375,000 worth of school supplies.

Events like this can be enhanced if organizers work with a banner printing company to create pieces to be used to indicate the race course.
