Big Al's Superstore, located at College Avenue and 46th Street, has been vacant for some time, but is now going to get a facelift, and should have several tenants within a few months.
Among them is Scarlet Lane Brewing Co., LLC, which will open a taproom in part of the building, according to the Indianapolis Business Journal.
Michael Boaz is with a partnership that is purchasing the old Big Al's. According to Boaz, the group plans to do undertake heavy work on the building. Boaz is waiting for final approvals and permits, and anticipates starting work within a few weeks.
Plans call for the installation of a new roof, new sewer and water services, and a new interior. The building comprises a ground-level space of approximately 7,000 square feet, with an another 2,700 square feet on a lower level.
Scarlet Lane's Nick Servies says the taproom will take up approximately 1,600 square feet, and will have 15 to 24 beers available at any one time. They will be a combination of beers Scarlet Lane brews itself, and others from regional and local guest brewers. Servies says the new bar will be a comfortable place to hang out.
The taproom could open sometime this summer or fall, depending on how the rest of the work on the building goes.
