Neighborhood drive-in has new owners
A drive-in theater that has been operating on Indianapolis's west side for decades now has new owners.
According to a recent announcement, Marcella Snyder and Jon Parkin bought Tibbs Drive-In, which has four screens set on 24 acres, from Agnes and Ed Quilling, who had been the venue's owners since 1995. Promotional products can help new businesses like this build brand recognition.
Snyder said she has been involved with the theater her whole life, starting when she worked at the concession stand beginning in 2005. She remained at the drive-in for 10 years before going back to college for degrees in biotechnology and communications. Parker is a human resources manager for PayPal Holdings, Inc. Both Snyder and Parker plan to keep working at their current jobs for several years before they take over the drive-in full time.
Snyder says her education has already helped her work at Tibbs. Her degree in communications allows her to deal with lenders, vendors, and customers effectively, and her degree in science allows her to approach difficulties analytically rather than emotionally. At the moment, the duo are working on how to make parking more efficient and orderly. They have already updated the cash registers, and plan to add vegetarian dishes to the concessions.
They are also optimistic about the future, despite the rise of Netflix and other on-demand streaming services, because Tibbs gives people affordable entertainment, and a chance to spend an evening out.
