Indianapolis locals should note that the Historic Trees and Legacy with DNR’s Urban Forestry Division event will take place in March to provide the public with an opportunity to learn more about Indiana’s historic trees.
The Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR)’s Urban Forestry Division provides grants and offers guidance to communities wishing to protect and maintain their urban forests. Caring for urban forests creates valuable economic, social, and environmental benefits for the infrastructure of a community, and as societies become increasingly more urban, this stewardship becomes all the more important.
The Historic Trees event will teach the history of some of Indiana’s largest and oldest trees. Attendees will take a tour of the trees located around the Statehouse and learn about the tree that has been to the moon, as well as Governor Holcomb’s Million Tree initiative. There will also be interactive activities intended to further expand on the vital role urban forests play in communities.
Educational events like this will often be advertised on Flyers that organizers can mail or hand out in the community. Local Print shops specializing in flyer printing services can play an important role in helping organizers prepare such advertising materials.
The workshop is scheduled for Tuesday, March 31 from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon. It will be held at the Eugene and Marilyn Glick Indiana History Center, located at 450 West Ohio Street, Indianapolis.
