What's Happening in Indianapolis, IN…

Local museum purchases Batman memorabilia

The Indianapolis Children's Museum has bought one of the biggest collections of Batman-themed items in the world, according to an article on WishTV.com

Indianapolis resident Kevin Silva, who has been collecting Batman memorabilia since he was five years old, sold his entire collection—a staggering 3,252 items—to the museum. From 2013 to 2016, Silva's collection held the Guinness record for the largest Batman display.

Silva says he has had the collection for nearly 51 years, but did not deliberately start out to collect the items. Instead, his mother gave him a few Batman goodies, and he saved them and added more. Silva still has the items on display in his basement. Among the collection are costumes, figurines, roller skates, and a number of props used on the television program.

Silva said one of the reasons he has sold the collection is that he is running out of room, and is at the point where he has to take items down or move them around in order to display new items. He feels the collection has “run its course.”

The museum is planning to open a new exhibit of pop culture items in June, and Silva's Batman materials will be part of that. The Director of Collections for the museum, Chris Carron, says feedback received thus far has been positive.

Events like this can benefit if organizers work with brochure printers to create a booklet about the specific exhibit.
