Indianapolis gets two more Southwest flights
Southwest Airlines plans to add two non-stop, daily flights to New York City from Indianapolis.
This will make Southwest the second airline to fly directly to New York from Indianapolis International Airport (IAA).
The new flights will go to La Guardia Airport. Delta also flies to La Guardia, and has one flight a day to JFK International. The added Southwest options represent a 17-month period during which flights have been added to IAA. The airport has added 19 destinations since the beginning of 2014, many of which are nonstop flights.
Mario Rodriguez, who is IAA's executive director, said that business travelers in particular had been asking for more options for travel to New York, so the airport worked with the airlines that fly out of Indianapolis to respond to their requests, as well as providing convenient transportation to important business destinations. The New York flights will each have 143 seats. In total, there are non-stop flights from Indianapolis to 39 cities.
Although the flights do not start until November 1, people can order tickets now. Southwest's flights cost less than those offered by Delta, the other airline flying non-stop to New York, IndyStar.com reports.
The airport might work with brochure printers to create a booklet, to be displayed on racks at the airport, that announces the new schedule. Travelers can pick them up free of charge at their convenience.
