What's Happening in Indianapolis, IN…

Indianapolis Children's Museum free on Thursdays

Following recent changes, the Indianapolis Children's Museum will now be free to visitors on Thursdays.

The museum has taken this step to promote visits by families. The facility’s vice-president of experience development and family learning, Jennifer Robinson, said the institution is committed to the neighborhood and the community, and understands that it's sometimes difficult for entire family groups to come and pay the admission.

The free Thursdays have been instituted so everyone who wants to do so can come and see what's new at the museum. The nights are known as the ‘Target Free Family Night’, and the event hours are 4:00pm to 8:00pm.

There will be a new theme each month, with August's being ‘back to school’. A number of organizations were on hand to give attendees information on how to make going back to school a healthy and happy time. Among the organizations in attendance were the Marion County Health Department, the Indiana University School of Medicine’s Pediatrics Department, MDWise, and the Indiana Department of Child Services.

According to Robinson, some of the organizations dealt with learning disabilities, and were there to let parents find out how to help their children have a positive experience in school.

Museum officials could work with brochure printers to create a mailer for the area’s residents, describing the free Thursdays program.
