Disaster response skills workshop planned for Indianapolis

In June, the IMPD (Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department) Homeland Security Bureau will hold a three-day CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) Basic Training Course for the Indianapolis community.

The IMPD Homeland Security Bureau oversees the preparation and coordination of recovery responses relating to catastrophic events. Part of these efforts include organizing workshops to teach Indianapolis civilians about disaster relief response. The CERT Basic Training Course is designed to prepare citizens to respond to emergencies in their community by teaching basic disaster response skills.

The CERT course will be held over three days and will go over topics such as team organization, light search and rescue, and disaster medical operations. Attendees will learn how to coordinate as a community to help affected members of the community during catastrophic events like earthquakes and floods. Attendance of all three days will be required to complete the course.

For educational workshops like this, organizers often find print shops specializing in brochure printing helpful in creating informative brochures and other teaching materials.

The CERT Basic Training course is scheduled for Friday, June 11 to Sunday, June 13. It will be repeated on the dates of June 18 through June 20. The venue will be the EMA Headquarters located at 201 Shadeland Ave. There is no fee to attend the workshop, although registration is recommended on Eventbrite.
