Classic art form coming to Indianapolis
An art form that dates back thousands of years is coming to Indianapolis.
Shen Yun, a troupe of gifted performers, brings classical Chinese dance to its audiences. The show has been performed throughout the country, and often sells out. Shen Yun uses colorful costumes, a live orchestra, and technology to bring ancient China and its legends to life.
The stories told by the dancers are drawn from Chinese culture, which has lasted more than 5,000 years. The precision dancing is athletic, energetic, and yet draws on classical Chinese techniques, although the performance also uses large, animated backdrops to make audiences a part of the action.
Classical Chinese dance is the centerpiece of the show, and is thousands of years old. The technique was refined and enriched by each succeeding dynasty, until it is now one of the most encompassing systems of dance in the world. Although modern dance and military dance are combined in China today, only Shen Yun performs pure classical Chinese dance. The orchestra that accompanies the dancers is also unusual, as it uses both Eastern and Western instruments.
Shen Yun will appear in Indianapolis on January 8, from 2:00 pm until 4:15 pm, at the Murat Theatre. There is an evening performance at 7.30 pm on January 8, and a matinee on January 9, at 2:00 pm. Brochure printing can be used to create programs for events like this, leaving space to explain the background of unusual performances.
