What's Happening in Davenport, IA…

Gilmore Girls craze spreads to Davenport

Netflix is reviving the ‘Gilmore Girls’ television series in November and, as part of its promotion of the show, has selected about 200 cafes in the United States, and five in Canada, to transform into replicas of Luke's Diner, the coffee shop featured in the program. In Davenport, that honor went to the Coffee Hound on Brady Street.

In addition to resembling the fictional diner, the shop gave away 250 free cups of coffee. Branded items and pop-tarts were also available.

A minimum of one coffee shop was chosen in each state to host the pop-up, with some states having as many at 10. The Coffee Hound was the only chosen venue in Iowa, though there were two in Chicago. Since the Davenport shop was the only one in the area to take part in the promotion, fans drove from all over the area to take part in the fun.

According to Paige Allender, the owner of Coffee Hound, Netflix emailed her about the take-over only two weeks before it was scheduled to take place. She received coffee cups, sleeves, branded costumes, and “Luke's” signs only two days before the event.

The Netflix reboot of the series, four episodes entitled ‘Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life’, is set for release on November 25.

Events like these can be enhanced when organizers work with flyer printing companies, which can create handouts giving details of the occasions.
