Marietta will honor its veterans and military families with the American Legion Veterans’ seventh annual in-person Memorial 5K Run/1K Walk and a Georgia Symphony Orchestra’s (GSO) Military Appreciation Celebration coming this month.
Registration will be $35 and will go up to $40 after next Wednesday, November 10. Swag includes khaki-colored T-Shirts sporting the 2021 Veterans Memorial 5K Logo Design. Phantom runners (those supporting the event but not running) can get the T-shirts for $25. A Tot Trot event for kids five years old and younger will be free. Navy blue golf shirts with a red and white event logo design will go to supporters donating at least $100.
Check-in will begin at 6:00 am. The 5K Run/Walk/Wheelchair race commences at 7:30 am, followed by the 1K Run/Walk at 8:30 am and the Tot Trot at 8:45am. An awards ceremony for the 5K will start at 9:30 am.
Proceeds from the race will go to the Horace Orr Post 29 Inc. Veterans’ Assistance Fund, Shepard Center’s SHARE Military Initiative, and the Georgia National Guard Family Support Foundation.
Following the race from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm, the Georgia Symphony Orchestra will hold its free Military Appreciation Celebration in Glover Park. The GSO brass quintet and the GSO Chorus will perform patriotic music along with speakers and special guests.
The celebration will take place on Marietta Square, November 13.
