Marietta welcomes new vein clinic

According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), venous insufficiency can affect as many as 600,000 patients in a year, and may lead to life-threatening complications if left untreated. Now, a new clinic that specifically treats venous insufficiency is set to open in Marietta.

USA Vein Clinics is a nationwide network of doctors who treat this condition, and it is the only such organization in existence. Of those patients who have this condition, one in six is likely to develop severe complications such as deep vein thrombosis (blood clots), or pulmonary embolism (blot clots in the lung).

Varicose veins are one symptom of venous insufficiency, and doctors urge people who develop the condition to seek treatment, noting that treating these veins is more than a cosmetic procedure.

Symptoms of the condition may include leg cramps, pain, swelling, aching, burning sensations, heaviness, spider veins on ankles or legs, skin discoloration, or restless legs, particularly at night. Since it is often genetic, these symptoms are often found in people whose parents or grandparents had varicose veins or other similar disorders.

The new clinic will open next Tuesday, February 24, on East Piedmont Road in Marietta. Clinic staff might consider working with a banner printing company to create a banner to hang in the center on opening day, to welcome patients to the new center facility.
