Marietta creates partnership to build affordable homes

Habitat for Humanity of NW Metro Atlanta (HNWMA) is partnering with the city of Marietta to provide six affordable homes with no-interest loans for employees of the Marietta City Schools and the city.

The project is called the “Marietta Public Service Housing Program.” Six lots will be donated by the city, and HNWMA will have volunteers who build six homes with either one or two stories. There will be two lots each on Fraiser Street, Heges Street, and Griggs Street.

News about such projects and their features and benefits to those eligible is often disseminated throughout a city with poster printing.

The federal American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) is providing the funding for the project. The amount of $11,180,581 was given to the city through ARPA. The city has also committed an amount of $500,000 for the program.

CEO, Habitat for Humanity, Northwest Metro Atlanta, Jessica Gill, commended the city for recognizing the challenges faced by first responders and teachers in trying to buy a home in the current real estate market. Gill added that leadership is being demonstrated in the city with this affordable housing project, and her organization is thrilled to be part of this endeavor.

Of the six planned homes, three will be built this year with a maximum sale price of $250,000 each.
