Marietta's Georgia Metropolitan Dance Theatre (GMDT) has announced the program for its 58th season.
Brochure printers in the area will no doubt be asked to highlight that the first item on the schedule this year is ‘Repertory 58’; a collection of dances ranging from newer works to classical ballet. The theater's dancers are working with various choreographers, including Catherine Masciantonio, who is an alumna of GMDT, as well as Raul Peinado, Kathryn McBeth, and Kassandra Taylor-Newberry. Also lending expertise is the Artistic Director Emeritus of GMDT, Lisa Toups. Repertory 58 is suitable for audiences of all ages.
The company will also present the beloved seasonal classic ‘The Nutcracker’ over the Thanksgiving weekend. ‘Once Upon a Ballet’, an amalgam of favorite fairy tales, will follow in the spring.
GMDT members are pre-professional dancers aged 7-18 who are also students at various schools in the area. There are more than 160 dancers in the company, drawn from schools in Marietta City and Cobb County, as well as private schools likes St. Joseph's Catholic School.
The season's opening performance of Repertory 58 is slated for Saturday, September 27, at 7.30pm, with an additional matinee performance on Sunday, September 28, at 2:00pm. All performances are presented at the Jennie T. Anderson Civic Center in Marietta, and tickets are available online or on the day of the show from the ticket office.
