Macon festival to celebrate Southeastern Native Americans

This September, the Ocmulgee Mounds National Historical Park (OMNHP) will hold the 30th Annual Ocmulgee Indigenous Celebration in Macon.

The OMNHP is run by the Ocmulgee Mounds Association, which was founded in 1942 to support the park’s educational programming and to raise awareness of the cultural significance of the park and its monuments. The OMNHP organizes various programs and events to celebrate the "Lands commonly known as the Old Ocmulgee Fields,” which tells the 12,000-year-old story of the lives of people in Middle Georgia through its physical and cultural landscape.

The Indigenous Celebration is an annual festival showcasing the cultures of the Southeastern Native Americans to educate the public about the land’s original inhabitants and their living descendants in modern times. The event will feature traditional cultural crafts and foods from Native American arts and crafts vendors. There will be live demonstrations, music, dance, and storytelling from indigenous performers and educators. Attendees will also be able to explore the mounds, trails, and Earth Lodge.

Important cultural festivals like this often have booths set up with educational Posters to teach visitors about the festival. Such Posters can be printed using local poster printing services.

The Ocmulgee festival is scheduled for September 17 and September 18. The park is located on 1207 Emery Highway, Macon. Adult admission is $8, and child admission is $4.
