Decatur to make outdoor drinking options permanent
A unanimous vote has made Decatur’s open container policy, enacted to help downtown businesses survive a reduction in revenue during the pandemic, a permanent fixture.
In addition to the preservation of its open container policy, the city has expanded the program to include another such area that will be covered by the policy. Plus, the hours of operation and the applicable number of days the program will be in effect have been extended for all the open container districts in Decatur.
Changes in hours of operation or operating conditions often prompt companies to notify flyer printing services for their assistance in advertising these changes.
In was in October 2020 that Decatur first enacted its open container ordinance. The ordinance was designed in such a way that renewal was required every couple of months. The positive benefits and lack of problems resulting from the ordinance has prompted its indefinite expansion by city leaders.
This latest ordinance on the subject went into effect on Monday, January 3, after which the purchase of to-go drinks is permitted on Thursdays through Sundays from 11:00 am to midnight. Mondays through Wednesdays, outdoor alcohol will not be permitted. Establishments will be required to provide the drinks in green plastic cups that carry the city logo.
Businesses in the entertainment districts have the right to opt-out of the alcohol to-go program. Those that participate will, however, have to pay annual $250 fee to the city.
