South Daytona tries its luck with ducks

Many here in South Daytona are playing their part in the 3rd Annual Great Daytona Beach Kiwanis Duck Race coming in mid-September.

Around 10,000 rubber ducks will be dumped into the Halifax River. It costs $5 to “adopt” a duck, and any not adopted by race day will be available at the adoption booth at the race venue until one hour before the race.

All proceeds from the event will go to the Daytona Beach Kiwanis Foundation, which supports various grants and programs such as providing clothing and Backpacks to local elementary children. Other local children's charities are invited to create their own duck teams and receive a portion of the money they raise.

The adopter of the first duck that crosses the finish line will receive $2,500, the second will get $1,000 and the third will receive $500. There will be a special prize for a random "ugly" duck. The park will also have kids' activities, vendors, music and food.

The 3rd Annual Great Daytona Duck Race will take place on September 12 from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm at Radiology Associates Field in the Jackie Robinson Ball Park, 105 E Orange Avenue, Daytona Beach. The ducks will take to the water at 1:00 pm.

Food vendors that sell at events like this often have local Print shops produce their paper products with images that represent the festivities, such as little yellow and orange ducks in this case.
