Cultural event teaches Turkish sculpting

A creative mosaic lamp workshop is set to take place in Melbourne, offering participants the opportunity to design and craft their own Turkish-style mosaic lamps.

It is a hands-on event open to people who are willing to work with clay, regardless of their competency in the field. The workshops begin with instructors having their participants make choices from some newly-made, colorful patterns from which to select their favorite. Highly knowledgeable instructors will help the participants learn the most important techniques for constructing an intricate mosaic, which includes preparing the walls and adhesive surfaces for glass, and ascertaining how these materials are placed into patterns. Once the design is complete, participants will assemble and decorate their lamp bases, adding finishing touches to produce a fully functional and decorative lamp.

The workshop is designed to allow for every skill level, so beginners will not find the class too difficult. With a process guided by expert instructors, participants will find it incredibly easy to complete their projects. The event aims to provide an accessible and enjoyable introduction to the traditional art of Turkish mosaic lamp-making, blending creativity with practical skill-building. Print shops could help with setting up certain themes for events.

The cultural experience is increased by real Turkish teas and coffees and Turkish delight served during the workshop. The experience becomes two doses of creativity and tradition.

The workshop is scheduled for Saturday, January 25, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Hilton Melbourne, located at 200 Rialto Place.
