Parade honors figure from Cubas past

The Jose Marti Commemorative Parade is taking place once again in Hialeah, presented by the City of Hialeah.

The parade is dedicated to Jose Marti, who is often considered the father of Cuban independence.

Nicknamed ‘The Apostle’, Marti was a poet, an essayist, a professor, and a journalist, among many other titles. He lived from 1853 to 1895, having been born in Cub’s capital Havana and died fighting the Spanish.

The parade will start off at 29th Street, travel down 8th Avenue, and finish off on 27th Street. There will be floats, marching bands, school groups, public organizations and representatives from government and business taking part. In past years, area beauty queens such as Miss Art Deco, Miss Junior Art Deco, and Miss South Florida have participated in the parade.

No doubt many of the floats and marchers in the parade will be displaying Banners to let spectators know what organization they represent. Items such as this are often obtained from Hialeah printing companies, ensuring that participants can be seen and make their message known.

The Jose Marti Commemorative Parade will be held in Hialeah on January 29 beginning at 10:00 AM. It will start off at the Walker Community Center. To find out more about the parade, or to become a participant, contact the City of Hialeah at 305-883-5800.
