Dance Africa Miami celebrates milestone year

The African Diaspora and Drum Festival of Florida is back for 2019’s version of the event in Miami in early August.

Music and cultural art lovers from all over Florida, including nearby towns like Hialeah, are encouraged to attend.

The aim of this festival is to connect the African Diaspora in Florida with each other. The state has a wide range of diverse communities that all share a passion for music and art. More than 35,000 people have attended this event since it started in 2010.

Flyer and poster printing for the event shows that there will be entertainment for the whole family, with artists coming from Senegal, Guinea, Mali, Haiti, and Cote d’Ivoire. The event will be hosted by the Little Haiti Cultural Complex. Attendees can expect to be entertainment by a wide range of activities such as yoga, live music, dance workshops which specialize in Caribbean and African dance styles, children’s activities such as the free children’s village zone, and African-themed fashion shows.

The highlight of this year’s event will be a concert extravaganza on August 3rd led by ‘Seeds of the Diaspora’. This is a cultural expression of art that is delivered using contemporary and traditional folktale. The combination of storytellers, musicians, and dancers both local and international will converge on DanceAfrica, which is a festival stage that tends to sell out.

It takes place next weekend, August 2 to 4.
