A long history
The first arrivals of European descent in the area were English settlers from the New Haven Colony. They purchased the land where Milford is today from Chief Ansantawae of the Paugusset tribe, in 1639. The new settlement was first known as “Wepawaug,” the name of a river running through the community. In 1640, the river provided the power for one of the town's earliest industries, a grist mill.
Another original structure, the Eells-Stow House, dates back to 1700, and is still standing. It is also on the National Register of Historic Places, and is now on the Milford Historical Society's campus. Institutions like this offer great educational opportunities, and often manage exhibits of artifacts. Brochure printers can provide informative materials that help visitors understand the collections.
The economy
After World War II, Interstate 95 was routed through Milford, and brought economic development with it. Many new commercial concerns were established along the Boston Post Road, and a large shopping mall, the Westfield Connecticut Post Mall, was constructed in the area. Several major corporations moved their headquarters here at the time as well.
Companies of all kinds and sizes need attractive and effective printed materials to operate effectively. Among these products are Stationery and Business Cards, two traditional items. When a company writes to a customer, vendor, or other contact, it does so on official letterhead. This may be the first time a consumer has formal contact with the organization, and the letterhead must make a good first impression. Stationery printers are experts at creating the type of attractive, professional Letterheads companies need.
Companies can also turn to business card printing services to create this useful tool. Business Cards are exchanged constantly, and are a quick way for business people to provide contact information to one another. However, the cards need to use the same colors and designs as the rest of the company's products, and professional printers can make sure the patterns are cohesive.
Culture and recreation
Since Milford lies on Long Island Sound, activities centered on the water are important to the community. Among them is the Oyster Festival, the town's annual celebration of its location on the Sound, which has historically been rich in shellfish. The event is held on and near Milford Green, which is close to the town center, as well as spots throughout downtown. In addition to having delicious oysters available to eat, the festival also includes classic auto shows, live music, and kayak and canoe races.
When events like this are scheduled, organizers have a chance to use banner printing to create festive decorations for the various venues. They can also have Banners designed that identify the participants in such events.
