The Utility Box Public Art Pilot Program of the city of Torrance has been launched, with a call to potential sponsors and artists.
Members of the community, including artists based in Torrance, are invited to submit designs to contribute to the attractiveness and vitality of the streetscapes of the city and bring art to places where it might be least expected. All businesses and residents of Torrance can sponsor a utility box or can submit an original design.
Such special programs and their benefits are often promoted throughout a city with flyer printing.
A vendor approved by the city will install the artwork. There will be a vinyl material and an ultraviolet protective clear coat to protect the box from the sun and other damage from the environment. The utility Boxes are located throughout the city and at major intersections, with traffic signals so that automobile, cycling, and pedestrian traffic will be able to view them. The artwork must be suitable for viewing by people of all ages, including families.
The goal of the artwork is to transform the streets, enliven areas, and reflect the neighborhoods in which they are located. A list of resident artists will be provided by the city; sponsors can choose which one ones they would like to support. There will be two boxes in each of the districts in Torrance.Get a Free Quote for Boxes
