Torrance to hold celebration for armed forces

The annual Armed Forces Day Parade and Celebration will take place for the 62nd year in Torrance next month.

This event celebrates the six branches of the military of the United States that are under the Department of Defense and will be a celebration of three days that will include a military concert, military exhibit, 5K Race for Freedom, special flyovers, and a parade along Torrance Boulevard. Lieutenant General Philip A. Garrant from the United States Space Force will serve as the Grand Marshal of the parade. He is Commander of the Space Systems Command, which has its headquarters in El Segundo at the Los Angeles Air Force Base. Space Systems Command is responsible for supplying the fighters, allies, and the country with critical, resilient, and space-based capabilities.

Michael Hopkins, retired United States Space Force Colonel, will be the Honorary Grand Marshal. He and Senior Ranking Flag Officer, Colonel Mia L. Walsh, will be joining Lt. Gen. Garrant to lead the parade. George K. Chen, mayor of Torrance, said this is a tradition that honors the sacrifice and bravery of the Armed Forces and unites the community in patriotism and gratitude.

The Armed Forces Day Parade and Celebration will run from Friday, May 17 through Sunday, May 19.
