The Armed Forces Day Parade and Celebration will be held for the 61st year in Torrance in May.
Torrance is one of few cities across the country sanctioned by the Department of Defense to hold an annual celebration to honor the armed forces. This is the longest-running military parade sponsored by any city.
Each year, the city identifies one branch of the United States military as the service to be honored during the celebrations, and a high-ranking member of the honored service is invited to serve as Grand Marshal. This year, the branch being honored is the United States Coast Guard.
Poster printing is often used throughout a city to advertise and garner attendance by residents, visitors, and others in the region.
The three-day celebration starts with two concerts on Friday – the first one in the afternoon, which is open to the public, and one in the evening, which is only for those invited in the military. The Air Force Band of the Golden West will perform at the James R. Armstrong Theatre on Civic Center Drive.
A parade will be held on Saturday beginning at 1:30 pm at Crenshaw Boulevard and travelling through the city to Madrona Avenue. Other festivities will include military assets on display throughout the weekend at the Del Amo Fashion Center.
The celebration will run from Friday, May 19 through Sunday, May 20.
