Torrance to celebrate Armed Forces Day

The Armed Forces Day Parade and Celebration will be returning to Torrance this year.

Poster printing is one way to inform residents of such special events and encourage the participation of residents and those in neighboring communities.

This will be the 61st year this event is being held. The United States Coast Guard will be the branch of the military honored this year – it oversees search and rescue and security in the seas and is the law enforcement service branch of the United States Armed Forces.

George K. Chen, mayor of Torrance, expressed his excitement about bringing back one of the most treasured traditions in the city. He said that this event has grown to be among the most anticipated in the year, adding that it enables everyone to come together to appreciate and honor those who serve in the military and help to promote military-civic relationships.

The third Saturday in May is Armed Forces Day and includes the celebration of the six branches of the United States Military under the Department of Defense.

This tradition in Torrance will take place from Friday, May 19 through Sunday, May 21. A parade will be held on Saturday, May 20 along with a 5K run, a military exhibit, and other special events throughout the weekend.
