Torrance residents that love sports have a new venue. On March 26, the City of Torrance officially opened a new sports complex. Youth teams from across the city as well as the “Futboleros” were on hand to help inaugurate the facilities.
Designed to be an all-purpose facility, the Toyota Sports Complex sits on 6.5 acres and boasts state-of-the-art amenities. Synthetic turf used on the playing fields was performance tested to make sure athlete-surface and ball surface interaction standards were met. Advanced lighting meets requirements for safe playing surfaces after dark which allows for year-round use of the fields while maximizing energy conservation. The fields can be configured for a variety of different games and competitions including soccer, football, lacrosse, and rugby.
This type of high visibility civic improvement not only benefits current residents, it also works to draw in new families to the community and works to the advantage of the business sector. New opportunities are presented for local vendors to gain customers, whether its supplying food for concessions or banner printing for team sponsors, making it a winning investment.
City of Torrance officials estimate that more than 15,000 youngsters are now using a variety of city parks for games and practice sessions. It’s hoped a majority of those youth will soon be playing in the new complex now that it’s open for business.
