Torrance offers funding for external enhancements

A new program has been launched by the city of Torrance that will enhance the economic character and vitality of the city.

Financial incentives will be offered to businesses through the Property Rehabilitation Rebate Program to enable them to restore, renovate and preserve their exterior façades. It has been determined that the aesthetics of a community and its neighborhoods play a major role in the decision of visitors to live, work and shop in a municipality. Banner printing is often used throughout a city to inform businesses of such available funding.

There are three tiers for financial assistance in the competitive application process. The first is up to $1,000; the second is from $1,001 up to $20,000; and the last is between $20,001 and $40,000. Licensed businesses approved for such funding can receive up to 50 percent of the cost of the improvements that are part of an improvement project approved by the city.

Improvements that can be undertaken by businesses include repair and replacement of windows; parapet walls on the roof to hide air conditioning equipment; professionally designed lighting and signage, including safety lighting; and film on glass doors and windows to prevent graffiti. Eligible businesses include restaurant and service businesses, such as pet and personal care, nail and beauty salons, fitness centers, and caterers, as well as restaurants and retail establishments.
