The solar-powered EV charging system created by Beam Global is now being deployed by the city of Torrance to charge its transit fleet of electric vehicles (EV).
The charging unit can be accommodated in a standard parking space. There are three of the company’s charging stations per unit. The system can store and generate clean electricity which is available to be delivered to vehicles 24 hours a day and during power outages and inclement weather. The units are permanent but can be transported so that they can be used by first responders where there is no utility connection or during blackouts. Local Print shops often help to spread the word about such system implementations with Flyers and other printed materials.
Director of the Torrance Transit System, Kim Turner, expressed excitement that Torrance Transit has the opportunity to pilot this charging station, powered by solar energy, from Beam for the transit systems non-revenue vehicles. Turner added that the goal is to use this cost-effective and self-sufficient solution to charge all the hybrid and all-electric vehicles that are used to support revenues.
Desmond Wheatley, CEO of Beam Global, said that his company’s ARC sustainable EV charging system is the fastest solution for EV charging infrastructure solutions. He added that the contract which was awarded to Torrance can be used by state and local governments to take advantage of best pricing and advanced streamline purchasing options.
