Torrance celebrates Armed Forces Day with weekend event

The Armed Forces Day Parade and Celebration will be held by the city of Torrance for the 63rd year later this month.

Such special events are often promoted throughout a city with poster printing.

This is an event that lasts an entire weekend and honors the women and men of the United States Armed Forces. The branch of the service that will be honored this year is the United States Army, which is celebrating its 250th birthday.

The event will start on Friday with military assets, such as vehicles, aircraft, and support equipment, on display at the Del Amo Fashion Center. This will open at 10:00 a.m. Later on Friday at 7:30 p.m. there will be a free military concert with a special performance honoring the troops at the James Armstrong Theatre.

On Saturday starting at 8:00 a.m. the Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce will host the Torrance Armed Forces Day 5K for Freedom Run/Walk. At 1:30 there will be the Torrance Armed Forces Day Parade, which is the longest running parade for Armed Forces Day in the country. This will be a procession of marching bands, historic military vehicles, and military personnel.

The exhibit of military assets will continue on Saturday from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. and on Sunday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

This celebration will take place from Friday May 16 through Sunday May 18.
