Torrance and Bizen in Japan sign friendship agreement

A Friendship City Agreement with the City of Bizen, Okayama Prefecture, Japan has been signed by the city of Torrance. Takeshi Yoshimura, mayor of Bizen, and George K. Chen, mayor of Torrance, signed the agreement.

Bizen is the hometown of Yoshinobu Yamamoto, a superstar who plays for the Los Angeles Dodgers. Torrance hopes that this new friendship will continue to foster the growing demand by the Japanese fans of the Dodgers who visit Los Angeles and establish Torrance as a destination for baseball fans. It is also hoped that the relationship will increase the sales tax revenue by attracting visitors and strengthening the position of Torrance in attracting new investments in advance of the events of the summer of 2028 as well as additional sports teams.

Mayor Chen is enthusiastic about this agreement. He said that it will open a new chapter in the history of the city and will help to place Torrance on the world stage as it emphasizes the importance of international relations that enhance the vitality of the two cities. He added that the city is looking forward to celebrating their shared heritage, learning from each other, and building a future together that includes economics, art, education, culture, and sports.
