New chief to lead fire department in Torrance
Dave Dumais has been appointed by Aram Chaparyan, City Manager of Torrance, as the new Fire Chief.

Dumais started his career as a paramedic in 1984 with the Los Angeles Fire Department. He started working for the city of Torrance in 1987 and worked his way through the ranks to become Deputy Fire Chief in 2006. He has been the Interim Fire Chief since July 2022.
Dumais has also been a member of the Emergency Preparation Advisory Team of the city specializing in the areas of critical infrastructure identification, hazard mitigation planning, and emergency management, among others. He has also been the Refinery Safety Coordinator, providing oversight of the Torrance Refining Company, LLC.
Chaparyan said that Chief Dumais brings close to 40 years of experience to his position and his continued education, training, involvement in the community, and experience reflect his dedication to the city and the Fire Department.
George K. Chen, mayor of Torrance, added that the city is fortunate to have someone like Chief Dumais as its 10th Fire Chief, given his expertise and level of experience. He added that he is sure that Chief Dumais will continue to serve the city with the same commitment and dedication that he has shown over the past 35 years.
