El Camino College in Torrance will be joining 16 other colleges and universities across the country in the new NBCU Academy. This is an innovative program for development and training in journalism that is being offered to students at universities and community colleges that will offer online courses, training on campus, and other types of education.
El Camino College is the only college in California that was selected to be part of this program set to enhance the distinguished journalism program at the college. The college is known for its many student-produced publications, including Warrior Life magazine and The Union newspaper, which have been honored with awards by the state and the country for photography, design, and writing.
NBCUniversal News Group has launched the new program which includes curriculum to be provided on site that features scholarships, funding for accredited journalism programs, and hands-on learning experience with NBCU News Group journalists. The scholarships to be offered are expected to be worth $3.5 million over the next two years. Such colleges often turn to printing services to create materials with more details about new programs for students.
NBCU News Group will be collaborating with professors to develop courses and provide equipment. In addition, management, executives, and journalists from editorial and production teams from Telemundo, CNBC, MSNBC, and NBC News and will be guest lecturers at classes to provide mentorship and insight into the real world of journalism.
