Faculty member at college in Torrance earns award

Dr. René Lozano, the Transfer Center Coordinator and counselor for El Camino College in Torrance, has been named as recipient of the John Vasconcellos Faculty of the Year Award for 2025 from the Faculty Association of California Community Colleges (FACCC).

This award is presented each year to a member of the faculty whose leadership at the district level or at their college significantly benefits faculty. News of such significant awards and achievements is often made known throughout a college community with poster printing.

Dr. Lozano is a former Region C Governor and a dedicated member of the FACCC. He identifies a significant gap in the FACCC and advocated successfully for the creation of the Counselors Committee of the FACCC. This is a committee across the state that has become a place where counselors can collaborate on important policy issues. The efforts of Dr. Lozano have shaped the advocacy efforts of the FACCC on important legislation and reforms to academic renewal policies in districts.

Dr. Lozano joined the faculty at El Camino College in 2008. Since then, his steadfast commitment and leadership in improving student outcomes and empowering faculty has focused on helping students to succeed. As coordinator of the Transfer Center, Dr. Lozano has guided students through the transfer process and into the university or college of their choice.
