Santa Ana’s proposed 2015-16 budget could mean more Books and Sunday hours for the city’s library if the almost $300,000 in additional library funding is approved.
According to Gerardo Mouet, the director of Parks and Recreation for the city, it has been 25 years since the library was open on Sunday. The extra $300,000 included in the trial budget would give the Santa Ana library $200,000 for new Books and $83,000 to fund the main library in the Civic Center for four hours on Sundays. This would continue the recent upgrades the city has made to its library system.
As Santa Ana’s financial situation improves and more money is available in the budget, the City Manager, David Cavazos, says that youth-oriented and library services are high on his list of priorities. Last year, council approved $250,000 that went toward eBooks and $125,000 for a civic engagement program aimed at youths. Additionally, wireless internet was introduced to the library’s main branch and other Civic Center facilities.
Library staff members say that what is really needed is another full service branch, but according to Cavazos, given the city’s limited funds, that expenditure is not in Santa Ana’s foreseeable future. Gaining public support for the library might be one way of attaining more funds, and the services of brochure printers can facilitate this by letting residents know the services available.Get a Free Quote for Books
